Web Design: Program Description
The certificate and Associate of Applied Science degree programs are designed to prepare students
for entry-level positions in the Information Technology
(IT) industry with emphasis in Web Design. Median annual earnings nationally for graphic designers in entry-level positions was $32,000 in 2005. The average hourly salary for graphic designers in Wyoming is $15.85 or $32,976 annually. The entry level salary for Web design technicians in Wyoming was not available. About 3 of out 10 designers are self-employed or do free-lance work.
An integral part of this program will be the inclusion of a required art course. Technicians who are highly-skilled with computer software also need the understanding of design elements to be effective in Web design.
Students will be assigned to relevant internships with local businesses where they will also be able to receive on-the-job training. Internships are an important part of the program because they allow students to apply the skills they have acquired in a "real-world" setting. It also gives students an opportunity to network with community members who can help them find employment.
