Student Accommodations

Testing Protocols
GED®
In order to satisfactorily meet the requirements of National GED® testing services, all GED® candidates are required to meet the 410/450 rule for the GED®. This means that in order to satisfactorily complete a GED®, students must obtain a minimum score of 410 on each area of the GED, with an overall average of 450 for the completed battery. Candidates who do not meet the battery average may retest any area of the GED® in order to raise the average battery score.
Official GED Practice Test (OPT)
The Adult Basic Education program at Eastern Wyoming College believes that students enroll in our program in order to achieve a personal goal. As such, it is our policy to give our students the best opportunity they can to successfully complete the GED® examination. As such, we require that GED® candidates successfully complete the OPT battery with a standard score of 450 in each subject area with an overall average of 500 in all areas before we give them permission to test. We believe that this policy better prepares our students for work force and/or for post-secondary education.Students who complete a program of instruction through one of EWC's center's are given instructor permission to GED® once they have successfully completed the OPT.
OPT's are administered under standardized testing conditions and scores are compiled by trained ABE instructors.
GED® Age Waiver Policy
It is a federal mandate that all GED® candidates be at least 18 years old to take the GED® examination. However, the State of Wyoming allows 16 & 17 year old candidates to take this exam if they satisfactorily complete an approved age waiver process and the subsequent applications that go along with it. Age waiver forms are available at all ABE centers throughout the EWC service area. Age waiver applicants must complete at least 12 hours of approved ABE instruction prior to the submission of documents to the Wyoming Community College Commission and must meet the OPT requirements outlined above.
EWC Adult Basic Education Testing Guidelines
All students are given a pre-test upon commencement of study and a post test after students have completed the required hours of study.
