Eastern Wyoming College Receives a Grant for Adelante Ninos Program

March 18, 2009

TORRINGTON, WY -

New Futures, a philanthropic division of nonprofit Western States Learning Corporation, has awarded a $2,500 grant to Eastern Wyoming College to assist in funding its annual Adelante Ninos program.  The program is presented to area fifth graders and their parents in May each year to ensure they begin planning careers and the education that will be required.

The program addresses all six topics allowable under the ACE Grant: career awareness; financial responsibility in preparing for post-secondary educational opportunities; college awareness; parent responsibility to promote college awareness; planning for post-secondary options; and study skills and preparation for high school curriculum. Specifically, activities will include visits to academic stations on campus which illustrate the avenues of study and potential career areas available to those individuals who have a college degree. The program will combine enjoyable activities for elementary students with parent sessions on motivating children, being active participants in their child's life, and financing higher education.

Program Director Anne Gardetto of EWC notes this year's program is scheduled for May 13.  A number of workshops presented by a variety of professionals from EWC and other colleges and universities will address the preparation required by both individual students and their families to ensure that students begin planning their careers and considering the education they will need to develop their skills.

"We are most appreciative of the additional funding received from New Futures,” stated Gardetto.  These funds will enable us to maintain the quality of the conference programs we have been able to provide over the last several years. "

The public is invited to attend Adelante Ninos V.  For more information, call Anne Gardetto at 532-8328.
