TORRINGTON, WY -

The Eastern Wyoming College Speech and Debate team recently traveled to Laramie, Wyoming to compete in the Top of the Rockies Tournament. EWC sophomore, PJ Chavez, Torrington, took 5th place in Impromptu Speaking, the largest individual event of the tournament. He beat out powerhouse Division I schools like Texas Tech, University of Utah, University of Oregon, University of Wyoming, and several southern California schools.

Other team members include Sam Schmitt, Sara Foster, and Drew Banks. The team also traveled to Casper College for a competition and will soon travel to Colorado College and Northwest College for competitions.

"I think our showing at the University of Wyoming tournament indicates this could be a good year for EWC Speech and Debate. Sam Schmitt and PJ Chavez represented EWC at a national-level tournament, and they came away with some wins in debate. PJ came home with a placing. I really couldn't ask for a better outcome. I'm excited to see what the team is going to do at our upcoming tournaments," added EWC Speech and Debate Coach Chris Hilton.
