EWC Prevails at State SkillsUSA Competition

EWC students recently traveled to Casper to compete in the State SkillsUSA competition. EWC was awarded the College Chapter of the Year award and also had several first place finishers.
The results are as follows:
Aaron McCloud, Torrington, WY - Carpentry, first placeSharlet Starck, Lusk, WY - Customer Service, first place; Job Interview, third place Liz Stizman, Cheyenne, WY - Prepared Speech, first place; Job Interview, second place
Cody Wesch, Torrington, WY - Job Demonstration, first place
Ashlee Wilson, Wheatland, WY - Related Technical Math, first place
Dan Jerke, Cheyenne, WY - Welding, first place
Mitch Falkenburg, Douglas, WY - Welding, second place
Jesse Lang, Douglas, WY - Welding, third place
Both Liz Stizman and Mitch Falkenburg were elected to fill state officer positions and will represent EWC at Nationals in June in Kansas City.
The welding part of the competition had nearly 30 competitors from the various community colleges in Wyoming. Welding competitors read a blue print and put together a project involving shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc, and oxy-fuel cutting. Projects are scored by certified welding inspectors.
"In eight years of competition, I have always hoped for a sweep in the welding competition and am excited that we got it this year," added Russell Pontarolo, SkillsUSA advisor.
The students earning first place finished are eligible to compete at the National SkillsUSA competition in June in Kansas City.
