Eastern Wyoming College Announces Commencement Speaker

TORRINGTON, WY - Eastern Wyoming College is pleased to announce that Shawn Madden will be the speaker at the 58th annual commencement ceremony. The ceremony will be held on Friday May 11, 2007 at 7:00 PM in the EWC Fine Arts Auditorium.
Madden attended Casper College where he was a member of the men’s basketball and rodeo team. He then transferred to the University of Wyoming.
A very successful entrepreneur, Madden, along with his brother Lex, own Torrington Livestock Market. This is the 3rd largest livestock market in the United States and they typically run about 300,000 head of cattle through each year. He also has farming, ranching, cattle feeding and land development operations. Madden also does auctions, real estate and owns a convenience store.
His success as an entrepreneur and as an auctioneer have presented many opportunities. In the mid 90's he starred in a television commercial for Budweiser. Additionally, in 2001, Madden was the World Champion Livestock Auctioneer. During that time he toured across the United States.
He has also been a contestant on the game show “The Weakest Link”. This particular episode in 2003 highlighted champions.
Aside from his many business ventures, he also enjoys spending time with his 16 and 14 year old daughters.
Commencement activities will begin with a steak fry for graduates and their families in the Student Center at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11th. The commencement ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a processional from Janet Howard, Pianist. William Schmidt will serve as the Director of Ceremonies. The National Anthem will be sung by EWC student, Lacy Weiss.
Dr. Jack Bottenfield will then provide a welcome and introduce the guests on stage. These guest will include Madden, the Board of Trustees, Foundation members and EWC Administrators. Miss Karen Berry, Student Senate President will provide a welcome on behalf of the students. Madden will then address the graduates.
Dr. Ann Beaulieu, Vice President and Dean of Instruction, will present the candidates for graduation. Following will be the presentation of Diplomas by Sherri Lovercheck, President of the College Board of Trustees. Eastern Wyoming College Foundation President, Patrick Korell will then present the 2007 Distinguished Alumni award to Debbie Vosler. The closing remarks will be spoken by Schmidt.
