August 30, 2006

Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) has teamed up with the GEAR-UP Program (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs). The purpose of GEAR-UP is to ensure all students every opportunity to be academically and financially prepared for postsecondary education; including technical school, community college, or a four-year college.

GEAR-UP raises the standards of academic achievement for all students, and develops effective and enduring alliances among schools, colleges, students, parents, and government. EWC and GEAR-UP are developing partners: After School PRACTICE Program in Goshen County, Douglas Middle School, Wheatland Middle School, Hulett Middle/High School, and Lusk Middle/High School are just a few.

Each partner is dedicated to the educational development and success of every student they serve. Some activities GEAR-UP will be offering are: ACT on-line test prep classes, summer institute, college for a day, college student mentoring, job shadowing, parent college information day, summer camp, cultural activities, individual and group tutoring.
