Eastern Wyoming College Employee Receives Award at Wyoming Community College Conference

Eastern Wyoming College would like to announce the recognition of Verl Petsch Jr., EWC Director of Athletics, who won the Employee of the Year award at the Wyoming Community College Conference held in Cheyenne, WY on February 27, 2006. Petsch was nominated by his peers for the Wyoming Association of Community College Trustees Award. The nominations were for "Student of the Year", "Employee of the Year", and "Board of Trustees or Foundation Board Volunteer of the Year". Nomination packets included examples on how the nominee has had a positive impact on their community college, leadership roles and involvement in the community.
Petsch was not only recognized for his accomplishments at EWC but also for his various contributions. Petsch is a long-term employee who has forged the look of athletics and physical education at EWC for the past 35 years. In 1998, he was inducted into the NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame. In 2002, the college named the activity center building the Verl Petsch Jr. Activity Center in honor of his contributions to the college. Petsch has been EWC's head volleyball coach for the last 32 years. He has taught numerous health and physical education classes. In addition to his teaching and coaching duties, he serves as our athletic director and helps coordinate basketball, rodeo, golf, cheerleading, and intramurals.
Petsch comments, "I'm extremely honored and humbled to receive this award. The Wyoming Community College system is one of the finest educational systems in the United States. The EWC administration, faculty, and community are always supportive and progressive in educational endeavors. It's a real tribute to be selected by my peers."
Other Eastern Wyoming College nominees included Roxanne Steben for "Student of the Year" and Kathryn Kelly for "Board of Trustees or Foundation Board Volunteer of the Year".
