New Welding Lab at Eastern Wyoming College
January 20, 2006
TORRINGTON, WY - The support and generosity of our
community has helped Eastern Wyoming College in a big way. So much so, that the
major gifts campaign has made it possible to expand the welding and machine
tooling program. After an anticipated wait, the new welding lab is now ready for
the students this spring semester. "We are ready for industry and we have the
ability to handle more students", commented welding instructor, Leland
Vetter.
Construction on the new lab & renovations on the old started last May. There are now 16 additional welding booths and three weld test booths. In addition, the labs received new lighting, heat, and booth construction, and there is a new area for pipe fitting and fabrication.
There are now two different types of welders per booth enabling them to run five different welding processes. Also, the processes requiring gas shielding will now utilize liquid cylinders. There is a new area for pipe fitting, fabrication, and other related areas.
Russell Pontarolo, welding instructor commented, "I'm excited about the class scheduling possibilities and the diverse welding process capabilities."
According to Director of Development Lynnea Bartlett, "We are planning an Open House for April to show off the new lab and expanded welding program to our community, and to once again thank the donors who made the renovation and expansion a reality. We simply could not have accomplished such a project without the community's financial support."
