EWC Employees Receive Recognition at TVFD Banquet

(Torrington, WY) The annual Torrington Volunteer Fire Department banquet was held last Saturday evening and Eastern Wyoming College employees received some special recognition.

The EWC Community Connections Department received the department's "Special Person of the Year, 2004" award. This award recognizes a person, group or business that makes a significant positive impact in the manner in which the Fire Department performs its tasks of fire protection within the city and fire district. The EWC department was recognized for the contribution it has made to enhance the training of firefighters from all over Goshen County. Accepting the award on behalf of EWC was Dr. Dee Ludwig and Maureen Reichert.

The Chief's Award is presented by the Fire Chief to a member that has made a significant contribution to the operation of the department. Lance Petsch was presented this award for research and completion of a Federal Fire Act grant for $125,000 for the purchase of new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and support equipment. Lance completed the grant and chaired a committee to research and evaluate the SCBAs. The new equipment will be delivered in March of 2005.

Dr. Rick Patterson was recognized for service to the department and its members as a Critical Incident Stress Debrifer. A critical incident is one in which a fatality or major injury occurs. A debriefer works with the department member's to minimize post-incident psychological impact to those members responding to those scenes. In this role he performs an important service to the members of the department and their families.

Chuck Kenyon was recognized as one of the "Top Five Responders" for 2004. The "Top Five Responders" award is given each year to five members that respond to the highest number of calls. Kenyon has received this award 16 times during the past 18 years.

EWC President, Jack Bottenfield comments, "As President of Eastern Wyoming College, I am very proud of and appreciative of the contributions and services which many EWC employees provide to our community. EWC truly is a COMMUNITY college!"
