EWC Students Participate at National Skills USA-VICA Competition

(Torrington, WY) Eastern Wyoming College was represented by eleven students at the 40th annual National SkillsUSA-VICA competition in Kansas City, MO, June 21-26. To compete at the national level the students had to finish in first place at the state competition in Casper, WY. Competing for the college were: Derek Baker of Hawk Springs, WY, Pete Cawiezel of Morrill, NE, Jamie Herdt of Torrington, WY, Tessa Kammerer of Piedmont, SD, Cole Liggitt of Morrill, NE, Cody Livingston of Laramie, WY, Mark Marlett of Torrington, WY, Chance Pollo of Douglas, WY, Tyrell Steben of Torrington, WY, Sam Thrasher of Vershire, VT, and Todd Wiseman of Torrington, WY.

Competing in the Business and Technology Division was Cawiezel and Herdt who both placed 3rd for the Community Service Project. Competing in the Computer Hardware Maintenance Division was Marlatt who placed 3rd also. The Web Design team of Liggitt, Steben, and Thrasher, all placed 5th. The 3D Animation team placed 3rd with Baker and Kammerer as the contenders. Pollo placed 5th in the Welding Division and Wiseman placed 28th in the Machine Tooling Division. Cody Livingston participated in Prepared Speech.

Kristine McGuire, Business Computer Applications Instructor commented, "The SkillsUSA team did a great job showing that our technical programs at EWC are among the Nations best with 9 students placing in the top 12 at the National Competition."
