EWC Golf Team Places 2nd at Torrington Invite

(Torrington, WY) The Eastern Wyoming College Golf team hosted a tournament on September 5-6, 2003 at the Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington. Competing against EWC at the Torrington Invite was Lamar College of Colorado, McCook College of Nebraska, and Johnson & Wales College of Colorado. Lamar took the tournament by shooting a 588 while EWC was just two strokes short of a tie by shooting a 590 and finishing second. McCook followed in third place with a 609 and Johnson & Wales finished the tournament with a 678. Golf coach, Mike Dawkins, commented, "I was tickled with the way the kids played and not surprised at all. We've just begun, and when we get really practiced up, we are going to be really, really tough."

Individually, EWC had four players place in the top ten for this tournament. Brad Morrison held the number one position by shooting a 144 for the tournament. Ryan Schmidt and Tyler Barry tied for the fourth and fifth position shooting 147 and Blake Jenniges tied for tenth place by shooting a 153. EWC golf team members for this season are sophomore, Ryan Schmidt of Torrington; freshman, Brad Morrison of Lyman, WY; freshman, Tyler Barry of Gering, NE; sophomore, Blake Jenniges of Hot Springs, SD; freshman, Jason Aschenbrenner of Mitchell, NE; freshman, Andy Moscinski of Evanston, WY; and freshman, Jeff Reitz of Chappel, NE.

The Golf Team travels to McCook, NE on September 11-12, 2003 and
Lamar-Lajunta, CO on September 18-19, 2003.
