May 22, 2003

(Torrington, WY) Eastern Wyoming College Board of Trustees officially accepted gifts received from Forney Welding Supply Company and Thermal Dynamics Corporation at the May 13 board meeting.

The Welding and Machine Tooling Departments at EWC were given consumable welding supplies from Forney Welding Supply Company from Ft. Collins, Colorado, for student use. Items given were welding caps, gloves, grinding wheels, filler metals, and brushes worth a total of $18,365 Normally the student would purchase these items at their own expense but with this generous gift student's educational costs are lowered. "It is gifts like these that make EWC successful and attracts students," stated EWC instructor Leland Vetter.

Thermal Dynamics Corporation gifted the college with a hand-held, portable plasma cutting system worth $1,800. Plasma is super heated gas that reaches 25,000 degrees Fahrenheit and is capable of cutting stainless steel, copper, and brass which at one time were considered difficult to cut. Welding instructor, Russell Pontarolo, stated, "This will help our students better master hand operated systems."
