EWC Foundation Announces Distinguished Alumni
April 30, 2003
(Torrington, WY) The Eastern Wyoming College Foundation has announced the recipient of the 2003 Distinguished Alumni Award. This year's recipient is Jeff Marsh from Torrington, WY. Marsh will be presented with the award at commencement on Friday, May 16, 2003.
Marsh first attended EWC through dual enrollment classes through Lingle-Ft. Laramie High School his senior year. He then attended as a full-time student on scholarship in 1978-1980. He graduated with an Associate Degree in education and transferred to the University of Wyoming to continue his education to become an elementary school counselor. Marsh worked for the Goshen County School District as an elementary school counselor after graduating from the University of Wyoming. He is currently a financial advisor for New York Life and has his own office in Torrington.
"Rollie Raboin was an instructor that truly provided inspiration to me. His knowledge and presentation of the subject matter really led me to pursue the field of counseling. I received an excellent education and the quality of instructors was phenomenal." Student senate involvement and activities top the list of memories Marsh has of EWC. "I remember that during EWC Days we would have shopping cart races in the parking lot which was a lot of fun. I also remember playing ping-pong with Guido Smith over the noon hour." Marsh was very active in the outing club, collegiate choir, swing choir and theater productions. He also taught community education classes in weight training. Academically, Marsh qualified for the President's Honor Roll and the Dean's Honor Roll.
Marsh is also very involved in the community and serves on numerous boards and civic organizations. He was recently appointed by Governor Dave Freudenthal to serve on the State Board of Education and the Schools Facilities Commission.
"I am truly humbled by this honor and extremely flattered," responded Marsh to
receiving the award. EWC Foundation President Kate Kelly was very pleased to have Marsh receive the award. "Jeff is an outstanding young man that grew up in our county, and I have seen him work very hard as a lifeguard, a referee, a counselor, and as a business man. He has always been involved and of service to the people of this area. I am very proud to see him receive the 2003 Distinguished Alumni award."
