City of Torrington to Offer Wyoming Community Gas Scholarship
April 28, 2003
(Torrington, WY) The City of Torrington and Wyoming Community Gas have come together to offer a scholarship for one full year tuition at Eastern Wyoming College starting in Fall of 2003. The scholarship will be awarded to a Torrington High School graduate with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The scholarship will be available for incoming freshman students or returning sophomore students.
Mayor Varney recently presented a check to Eastern Wyoming College to begin the scholarship. Varney was able to provide some background information about how the scholarship was created. Wyoming Community Gas (WCG) is a non-profit organization owned and controlled by Wyoming communities. Each year WCG distributes earnings back to its communities based on the percentage of customers choosing WCG. The Torrington service area had the largest return last year followed by Douglas and Wheatland. Other towns in the Torrington Division include Torrington, Glenrock, Douglas, Lusk, Hartville, Wheatland, Glendo, Guernsey, Lingle, and Ft. Laramie.
"We feel this is a great opportunity to support Eastern Wyoming College and an excellent way to thank the community." Varney added.
Applications for the scholarship may be picked up at Eastern Wyoming College Financial Aid office or City of Torrington Town Hall. For more information please call Eastern Wyoming College Financial Aid at 307-532-8224.
