EWC Hosts Academic Challenge

December 16, 2002

(Torrington, WY) Thirteen high school teams from around the State of Wyoming competed at the Wyoming Academic Challenge, hosted by Eastern Wyoming College, Saturday, December 7. The four-member teams participated in five rounds of competition and answered questions ranging from current events to mathematics and literature. Schools participating were: Gillette, Cheyenne East, Evanston #1, Evanston #2, Casper Natrona, Newcastle, Riverside, Sheridan #1, Sheridan #2, Three Peaks Christian School, Tongue River #1, Tongue River #2, and Torrington.

For the second year in a row, Tongue River (team #1), from Dayton, took first place, but not without a fight from Three Peaks Christian School of Sheridan. At the end of competition, both teams had accumulated 120 points, which necessitated a five question play-off. At the end of the play-off, both teams were still tied. The competition then went to sudden death, where Tongue River finally claimed victory.

Plaques and medals were presented to the winning teams and students on the first place team were presented scholarships to attend EWC for the 2003-2004 academic year.
