EWC Initiates New Honor Society Members

(Torrington, WY November 14, 2002) Eastern Wyoming College had the honor of initiating seven new members into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on Friday, November 8, 2002. New members inducted into the Alpha Omicron Lambda Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa were, Kaci Berry, Christin Covello, Amy Geringer, Amanda Green, Melissa Kelley, Aileen Leithead, and Virginia Nida.

Keynote speaker, Edward Buchanan, gave a motivational speech on preparedness to the initiates and a small group of family members, faculty, and staff. Buchanan, who practices law and has recently been elected into the House of Representatives, used his own experiences concerning education to emphasize what happens when preparation meets opportunity. They were congratulated by EWC President, Jack Bottenfield and welcomed into the Society by Chapter Advisors, Robert Creagar, Mathematics/Physics Instructor, and Nicholas Roster, Biology Instructor.

PTK Initiation CeremonyStudents must achieve an accumulated 3.5 or better grade point average, be a full-time student, and working towards an Associate Degree. Phi Theta Kappa is a national honor fraternity for two-year colleges. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship while promoting leadership and service within the community college.

Berry is majoring in Animal Science and plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming. She is the daughter of Chuck and Kayle Berry of Torrington. Covello is majoring in Psychology with plans to transfer to a university. She is the daughter of Cactus and Jeri Covello of Torrington. Geringer is majoring in communications and plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming to finish a Journalism degree. She is the daughter of Joe and Tammy Geringer of Wheatland. Green is an Elementary Education major, who wants an endorsement in coaching volleyball and basketball. She is the daughter of Gary and Julie Hornicek of Chappell, Nebraska. Kelley is an Elementary Education major. She is the daughter of William Stutz and Marlene Ward. Leithead is a Business Administration major and is married to Gary Leithead. They have three children, Krista Reinsback, Craig and Kara. Nida is majoring in Secondary Education - English and will transfer to the University of Wyoming. She is married to Bill and has three children, Sally Barlow, Lucas and Angie Moore.
