Collaborative Programs at EWC
October 21, 2002
(Torrington, WY October 21, 2002) Eastern Wyoming College partners with area high schools and the community in many ways. Examples include Technology Day, Tech Prep agreements and BOCES agreements. Students benefit from hands-on sessions during Technology Day as they participate in a variety of technical skill areas. Technology Day is set for November 7 at EWC and will allow area high school students to participate in sessions taught by instructors in the welding and joining, business and vet tech departments.
The Tech Prep agreements with area high schools benefit students interested in pursuing Technical Trades such as welding or machine tooling, Business Office Technology, Cosmetology, and Computer Networking. The agreements enable students to earn some college credits while still in high school. Tech Prep is designed to serve students who are in the middle of their classes academically, and encourages students to develop a career path and then follow it from high school into the community college. Tech Prep funds have also been used to sponsor professional development activities for service area school district faculty to attend national conferences.
EWC has a cooperative agreement with Goshen County School District to bring high school welding students to the campus for welding labs. EWC has helped support the high school programs at times with the purchases of supplies for their programs including welders, plasma cutters, and computerized equipment.
The Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) agreements in place at EWC help support articulation efforts and community education/outreach efforts in all six counties of EWC?s service area.. BOCES agreements often help pay tuition, fees, books, and other course or program costs associated with concurrent enrollment classes and programs. One popular BOCES? support program is the drivers education classes held in most of the service area outreach sites and Torrington.
