(Torrington, WY, September 17, 2002) The Technology & Trades Tech Prep Consortium is pleased to announce that grant funding has been approved by the Wyoming Department of Education for the 2001-2002 fiscal year.

Eastern Wyoming College holds tech-prep agreements with seventeen high schools throughout the state. The newest members to the consortium are: Kelly Walsh, Natrona County and Mills.

Six consortium member schools have received equipment for their welding programs purchased with funds from this grant cycle. Students in Ron Nelson ?s classes at Niobrara County High will be using a new DIALARC 250 P welder. Wheatland High School, Jack Sorenson, instructor, received an Everett Industrial Abrasive Cut-Off saw. Students at Moorcroft High, have a new instructor this year. A hydraulic pipe bender was purchased for those students. The three high schools in Natrona County received a Lincoln welder, beveling machine and compact bender.

The National Tech Prep Network Annual Conference will be held October 2-5 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Representatives from the area high schools and from Eastern Wyoming College will be attending.

The Fourth Annual Technology Day will be held November 7,2002. This event, hosted by the Technology and Trades Consortium, provides high school students with an opportunity to visit the Eastern Wyoming College campus and participate in hands-on activities with instructors in career and technical programs.

Tech Prep is an important option for students seeking to develop their skills as an alternative to a traditional four-year college program. These programs are becoming increasingly important as employers and educators recognize the critical need for a better-trained work force. Students participating in tech-prep programs have the opportunity to earn college credit while obtaining their high school education. This save students time and money, as they work toward the completion of their post-secondary education.

If you would like to learn how your school district or business can participate in the Technology & Trades Tech-Prep Consortium or how you as a student can enroll, please contact your high school counselor or Maureen Reichert at Eastern Wyoming College, 532-8317, mreicher@ewc.wy.edu.
