Daniels Fund Process

September 11, 2002

(Torrington, WY, September 11, 2002) For the first time, the Daniels College Prep and Scholarship Program has partnered with all of the Wyoming community colleges making the Daniels Program available this fall to eligible juniors in Wyoming high schools. Applications for the program must be postmarked by October 11, 2002. The Daniels Fund is a foundation established by Bill Daniels, regarded by many as ?the father of cable television,? out of his desire to make a difference in the lives of those who might be overlooked by traditional college assistance programs. Daniels left a veritable fortune to four states: Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Part of that fortune is to be used to help make a difference in the lives of your people who dream of going to college but lack sufficient financial resources.

Those selected for the Daniels Program will take part in a process focusing on applying for financial aid and college admission. Students who complete the Daniels College Prep Program have the opportunity to apply for a generous number of comprehensive, unmet need scholarships provided by the Daniels Fund to any college/university in the nation and/or transitional scholarships which will provide up to $2,000 each year to a community college.

Project Site Coordinator for the Daniels Fund for Eastern Wyoming College is former EWC Financial Aid Director, Kathy Moriarty. Moriarty will be helping juniors obtain information about this program at the following high schools: Torrington, Southeast, Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Guernsey, Albin, Lusk, Wheatland, Chugwater, and Glendo. ?This is a fabulous program for students. Some participants will receive very generous scholarships. Those who do not, however, will still have a significant advantage over other students in that they will be much better prepared to enter college and will have the added benefit of knowing how to access all sorts of resources for financial aid,? said Moriarty.

Moriarty will present information about the program in a series of information seminars which will be offered in the evenings to interested parents and students who are juniors. Seminars currently scheduled include the following:

  • September 23, 2002 - 7:00 p.m. - Business Room - Chugwater High School
  • September 24, 2002 - 7:00 p.m. - Room 8 - Wheatland High School
  • September 25, 2002 - 7:00 p.m. - Room 132, Tebbet - Eastern Wyoming College
  • September 26, 2002 - 7:00 p.m. - Library - Southeast High School (Yoder)

Additional seminar dates are pending. Families are welcome to attend any of the seminars. Further information may be obtained from Moriarty at 1-800-658-3195, Ext. 8322, or 532-8322, or at kmoriart@ewc.wy.edu.
